I have seen many blog posts and tweets about using social media in education. Educators are being encouraged to become “connected” through twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, etc. The possibilities are becoming more and more endless by the minute. I recently read Scott Haselwood’s blog post, Social Media, No Computer, No Problem! and decided that it was time to get back out there (on this blog) and continue what I recently started. Scott challenges #oklaed educators to tweet the awesome, the fabulous, the brag-worthy, cool things that happen in Oklahoma schools everyday using the hashtag #1coolthing. Weellll, we have several hundred cool things going on in our small, rural school, and one of them is our school Facebook page. Please go ahead and check it out here.
You might be thinking, so your school has a facebook page. That’s not such a big deal. Many schools across the state and country utilize facebook to keep parents and patrons updated on school cancellations and events.
Our page is unique because it has united current students, parents, teachers, administrators, board members, community members, business leaders, and alumni. Everyone can be proud to “like” the Vici Indians Facebook Page. Why? You ask?
Because the #1coolthing about our page is that we LOVE to recognize students and parents and their achievements. (Here are just a few examples.)

National Honor Society Induction: all inductees maintain a GPA of 3.5 and publicly demonstrate the life principles of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Congratulations Inductees and members!
